Module 04: Digestion & Elimination Flashcards

1
Q

State the Big Ideas for Digestion.

A

1: Digestion is a North to South process.

Q

Explain at least three things that can go wrong in the digestive system.

A

1: Insufficient breakdown of food in the stomach. Too little production of stomach acid (HCL) (Hypochlorhydria) fails to lower the pH to the adequate levels for proper breakdown of food.
2: Insufficient pH levels fail to stimulate the duodenum to secrete mucous, Secretin and CCK (Cholecystokinin). The duodenum is unprotected by mucous and burned, the gallbladder fails to release bile, the pancreas fails to release pancreatic digestive enzymes.
3: Improperly digested Proteins, Fats and Carbohydrates impact the Villi and Microvilli of the small intestine weakening the lining which becomes leaky.

Q

Locate and describe the test points for the Digestion Functional Evaluation.

A

DIGESTION: STOMACH
Ridler’s Reflex: HCL Point (Z-1” L)
Chapman Reflex: Stomach/Duodenum (6th L)

DIGESTION: PANCREAS
Ridler’s Reflex: Enzyme Point (Z-1” R)

DIGESTION: GALLBLADDER
Chapman Reflex: Liver/Gallbladder (6th R)
Murphy’s Sign: Liver/Gallbladder-Acute (under ribs R)(knees bent)
Right Thumb Web (Chronic Gallbladder)

DIGESTION: SMALL INTESTINE
Bennett’s Reflexes: Small Intestine (palpate 2-3” around umbilicus)
Chapman Reflexes: Small Intestine (8,9 & 10)

DIGESTION: LARGE INTESTINE
Large Intestine/Colon Palpation
Chapman Reflex Colon: (Iliotibial Band)
Iliocecal Valve Palpation (between ASIS and umbilicus)

Q

Describe how to prioritize test points used in the LNT process.

Q

Define the three possible reactions a client can have to a nutritional protocol.

A

DIGESTION REACTION:
Looks like a digestive problem.

SENSITIVITY AND/OR ALLERGIC REACTION:
These look like sensitivity or allergy symptoms.

HEALING REACTION:
Looks like the symptoms you are trying to fix.
