A

bonine or dramamine “all day less drowsy”. warning: CNS depression. ADRs: sedation, dry mouth, dry/blurry vision. OTC. commonly used for vertigo. 25-50 mg PO

scopaline

A

3 d patch PRN. contraindications: hypersens to belladonna alkaloids, angle closure glaucoma. ADRs: dry mouth, CNS effects (drowsy, dizzy, confusion), stinging of eyes. do not use in children. Rx only, not more effective but less freq.

5HT antagonists like this and ondansetron are generally not effective for motion sickness

scopaline counseling

A

apply to clean, dry, hairless area of skin behind the ear. press firmly for 30 s at least 4 h before motion sickness activity. wash hands with soap and water after handling and do not touch eyes. avoid alcohol. remove patch before MRI.

antihistamines for motion sickness

A

cyclizine (Marezine), benadryl, dimenhydrinate (dramamine), meclizine. all but benadryl are LA piperazine antiHAs and less sedating but still sedating. take 30-60 min before motion sickness activity. have antiACh effects
