NEW: change/crisis management, facilitate/empowerment, collaborate, diversity, higher ethics, humble

Vision
picture of an ambitious desirable future

Leaders are born with power to influence
Trait Theories
If traits of leaders could be identified to predict a leader. This failed.
Behavior Theories
How effective leaders differ in their behavior from ineffective ones.
Contingency Theories
Leaders can analyze their situations and tailor their behavior to improve leadership effectiveness.

Influence processes between leaders and followers. Influence by providing inspiration, vision of the future.
Relational Theories
Relational aspect, leader and follower influence one another. Interpersonal relationships are seen as most important. Leader is open to learning and change, and encourages the growth of others.
Derailment
Phenomenon in which a manager with impressive track record goes off track, and cant advance because of a mismatch between job needs and personal skills.
Leader Vs. Management
Managers deal with status quo, leaders change the status quo.
Management focus on objectives, leaders focus on people.
