Q

Oral hypoglycaemics and insulin during surgery

A

Patients are nil by mouth, therefore Metformin should be stopped otherwise it would cause lactic acidosis, other oral hypoglycaemics/insulin would cause hypoglycaemia. Sliding scale should be started instead, with hourly blood glucose adjusting dose of insulin = much tighter control
