denaturization
when the weak bonds that maintain the native shape of the apoenzyme are broken
causes distorted enzyme shape and prevents attachment of the substrate to the active site
competitive inhibition
inhibits enzyme activity by supplying a molecule that resembles the enzyme’s normal substrate; “mimic”
occupies the active site, preventing the actual substrate from bindind
noncompetitive inhibition
molecules bind to regulatory site and slows down enzymatic activity once a certain concentration of products is reached
enzyme repression
genetic apparatus responsible for replacing enzymes is automatically suppressed
enzyme induction
enzymes appear only when suitable substrates are present
cyclic form
the starting molecule is regenerated to initiate another turn of the cycle
