EL 6 Flashcards

1
Q

How do you calculate the formula of a hydrated compound unknown?

A

Calculate the amount of mass in the compound
Calculate the number of moles of each compound
Divide both by the smallest number of moles
this gives the ratio, which you can use to balance the amount of that compound needed

Q

How do you calculate the chemical formula of a percentage mass

A

Calculate the mass of an element in 100g by x the percentage by 100
Figure out the number of moles of that compound mass/mr
use that to find the ratio
