What does it mean that the heart muscle is myocardium?
It is able to generate it’s own electrical impulses so it can contract without nervous stimulation.
What are the 4 structure that are involved in a heart beat?
SAN
AVN
Bundle of His
Purkinje fibres
What is the role of the sinoatrial node?
Sends out impulses T/F atrium contracts and the blood goes to the ventricles.
What is the role of the atrioventricular node?
Acts as a gate to slow down SAN impulse T/F atria contracts before ventricle.
What is the role of the Bundle of His?
Conducts electrical impulses that regulate heartbeat.
What is the role of the purkinje fibres?
Carry contraction impulse from both L/R branch to the myocardium of the ventricles.
What is atrial systole?
The atria contract so blood goes to the ventricles
What is ventricular systole?
Ventricles contract so blood goes to the atria and the pulmonary artery.
What changes conduction rate?
Sympathetic impulses sent to the SAN and dec. of parasympathetic inc. HR.
What does the sympathetic nervous system do?
Speeds up
What does the parasympathetic nervous system do?
Slows down
What do chemoreceptors detect?
Inc. in CO2
What do baroreceptors detect?
Inc. in blood pressure
What do proprioreceptors detect?
Inc. in musc. movement
What effect does an inc. in CO2 have on HR?
Increase
