7.3 Flashcards
What is metabolism?
The chemical changes that happen.
What does anabolic mean?
Making larger molecules out of smaller ones.
What does catabolic mean?
Breaking down larger molecules into smaller ones.
What does exergonic mean?
Releases more energy than required.
What does endergonic mean?
Requires more energy than released.
What is hydrolysis?
Catabolic reaction, breaks down molecules.
What is synthesis?
Anabolic reaction, makes molecules
What happens in the ATP cycle?
ATP releases energy to make ADP and then ADP requires energy to make ATP
What does an exergonic graph look like?
Requires a small amount of energy and then releases more.
What does an endergonic graph look like?
Requires a large amount of energy and then releases less.
Is an anabolic reaction exergonic or endergonic?
Endergonic.
Is a catabolic reaction exergonic or endergonic?
Exergonic.
What is the reaction of ATP to ADP?
Catabolic, exergonic.
What is the reaction of ADP to ATP?
Anabolic, endergonic
Does an enderbolic or exergonic reaction have to occur first and why?
Exergonic because an endergonic reaction needs the energy released from the exergonic one.
Does breaking bonds require or release energy?
Requires.
Does forming bonds require or release energy?
Releases.
