Q

How does the probe heat heating work?

A

Electrical heating protects pitot heads static ports Angle-Of-Attack probes (AOAs) and Total AIr Temperature (TAT) probes. Three independent Probe Heat Computers (PHCs) automatically control and monitor Captains probes F/O probes and STYBY probes.

Q

When does the window heating come on?

A

The window heating comes on automatically when at least one engine is running or when the aircraft is in flight and manually before engine start when the flight crew switches ON the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pushbutton switch.

Q

Are the TAT probes heated on the ground?

A

On the ground the TAT probes are not heated and pitot heating operates at a low level (the changeover to normal power in flight is automatic).

17
Q

What does a “FAULT” light in the ENG ANTI ICE pushbutton indicate?

A

Switch/anti-ice valve disagreement

18
Q

With ENG ANTI ICE ON what indications will you see?

A
  • Blue ENG ANTI ICE light ON
  • ECAM: ENG ANTI ICE
  • ECAM: IGNITION
  • N1 limit is reduced (amber tick on N1 indicator)
  • N1 idle is increased
19
Q

What should you do if there is significant engine vibration due to ice?

A

Increase N1 to 70% for a minimum of 15 seconds prior to selecting a higher thrust

20
Q

With engine anti-ice ON, is your descent affected?

A

Yes, because idle thrust is increased

21
Q

Should you use wing anti-ice on the ground?

A

No

22
Q

Can you use the APU bleed for wing anti-ice?

A

No

23
Q

What does the amber “FAULT” light in the WING ANTI ICE pushbutton indicate?

A
  • Switch/anti-ice valve disagreement

- Low pressure is detected

24
Q

What is the maximum windshield wiper operation speed?

A

230 Knots

25
Q

What happens when the RAIN RPLNT pushbutton is pressed?

A

Timer applies a measured quantity of rain repellent to the windshield

26
Q

What part of the wing is heated?

A

Outboard 3 slats

27
Q

What happens if you turn the anti-ice switch on, on the ground?

A

The wing anti-icing valves will open for a 30 second test

28
Q

With the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pushbutton ON will the heaters automatically switch to AUTO?

A

No

29
Q

On the ground, with the PROBE/WINDOW HEAT pushbutton in AUTO, when are the probe and mast heaters activated?

A
  • LOW with at least one engine running (except the TAT probe - not heated on ground)
  • NORMAL is automatically selected after T/O
30
Q

When will the RAIN RPLNT pushbutton not work?

A

On the ground with the engines stopped
