Chapter 3 - Reflection of Light from Spherical Mirrors Flashcards
Real image
How can one be located
An image formed by the actual intersection of rays
On a screen or by the method of no parallax
Properties and locations of images of concave mirrors
If the object is outside the focus the image is real + located in front of the mirror
If the object is inside or at the focus the image is virtual and is located behind the mirror
Virtual image
How can one be located
An image formed by the apparent intersection of rays
Such an image can never be formed on a screen, but can be located by the method of no parallax
When is an image formed in a concave mirror virtual? This when is it real?
Virtual: if the object is inside or at the focus of the mirror
Réal: if the object is outside the focus
What does light from a distant object arrive as
A beam of parallel light
Nature, location, + size of images in convex mirrors
The image is always virtual and located behind the mirror
Image is always diminished - but the nearer the object is to the mirror the bigger the image
