Q

How does digestion start in the mouth?

A
  • Teeth and tongue work together to chop food to smaller pieces.
  • This increases surface area that the enzymes can work on.
  • Enzymes in the saliva breaks down starch into simple sugars and the saliva also makes it easier to swallow.
