What is Machiavellian style leadership?
The welfare of the state must come first and leaders must often do tough, ruthless things in the spirit of the ends justifying the means
In other words, power is a tool used for securing the safety and stability of the organization
What are the 4 main characteristics of Machiavellian leaders?
On guard for risks and threats to their power
They don’t mind being feared
They will use deception is neccessary
They use rewards and punishments to shape behaviour
What is the difference between power and influence?
Power- The potential ability of one person to influence other people
Influence- The effect a persons actions have on the attitudes, values, beliefs or actions of others
What is legitimate power?
Authority granted from a formal position
What is reward power?
Authority to bestow rewards on other people
