7
Q

Why is energy lost in the food chain?

A

Energy is lost through respiration, movement and can not all be absorbed so the predator receives less energy each time

15
Q

What is interdependence?

A

Depending on other organisms for survival - in an ecosystem this is critical - if an organism dies out the predators will also die out

16
Q

What does biotic mean?

A

Living - all the organisms in an ecosystem

17
Q

What does abiotic mean?

A
Not living
Components like:
-wind
-temperature
-water
-soil ph
18
Q

What does biodiversity mean?

A

The variety of all the different species of organisms on earth, or in an ecosystem

19
Q

Is a great biodiversity good?

A

It is good

It reduces the need for one species for food so there is less likely to be loss of species

20
Q

How does acid rain form?

A

Its caused by chemicals like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides being released into the atmosphere and reacting with water to create acid rain.

21
Q

What is a peat bog?

A

a wet spongy ground made of decomposing vegetation with poor drainage.

22
Q

Why are peat bogs destroyed and why is that bad for global warming?

A

They are destroyed to be used as fuel but it limits biodiversity due to the large amount of organisms living in them.
