Yellow-rumped Warbler - Parulidae

Yellow sides and butt patch, which gives it the nickname of “Butterbutt”.

Has a partial eyering and a small, yellow patch on the head.

Very common.

Song starts very strong, then fades - particularly distinct and “colorless”.

Common Yellowthroat - Parulidae

Dark mask, white supercilium, and a brown cape.

A super loud, fast, “witchity-witchity-witchity-witchity-wit!” Very bouncy!

Yellow Warbler - Parulidae

All yellow with a very clean, black eye. Fine, reddish belly streaking.

Has yellow spots on it’s tail where most would have white spots.

A bright, musical call that sounds like “sweet-sweet-sweet little more sweet!”

Ovenbird - Parulidae

Looks like a Wood Thrush, but rather than having circular spots on the breast, has streakier looking.

A dull orange crown stripe and a pink bill.

A staccato “teacher-teacher-teacher-teacher” for a call.

White supercilium that is very bright. Usually white underparts and pinky feet.

Funky foragers!

“Bayou Bayou Bayou, calm down y’all!”

Northern Waterthrush - Parulidae

Duskier belly and breast, with a tan supercilium rather than a bright white.

Has a streaked throat also.

A call similar to LOWA, but :chirpier” - also, it tends to trill downwards.

A clear, loud song, that starts with a chip, and then warbles, ending on a higher picth.

A pretty drab bird. Olivey wing, and a hard-to-see orange crown.

Has a slim shape, and a slightly pointed bill. They also have a warm yellow on the undertails.

Tennessee Warbler - Parulidae

A white supercilium that is relatively short. Has a clear white throat, with a greyer belly and vent.

Has olivey wings.

Has a three-part series of loud, spitting trills. The third part is faster, higher, and louder.

Nashville Warbler - Parulidae

Grey head, white eyering, and a lil bit ‘o rust on the head. The white eyering especially stands out on it’s grey head.

Has an olive-green back and NO wingbars.

Has a kind of trilly call, that sounds halfway between a Tenneessee and Pine Warbler call.

Connecticut Warbler - Parulidae

Has a grey head that extends down into throat and breast.

An olive back, and generally a bird that is less bright than other warblers. Has a white eyering. Has a pale bill.

Mourning Warbler - Parulidae

Has a black breast, grey hood, and NO eyering. Back is kinda olive-y.

Has a black patch on the breast thats like a pseudo-neckace, but the size of this patch is highly variable.

Grey hood and a lack of a white eyering is very unique for this warbler.

American Redstart - Parulidae

Is a very active forager!

Looks kinda oriole-y. Has a black and orange fanned tail.

Has an emphatic, trilly call, with a highly pitched upwards trajectory on the last note. Some people describe it as “sneeze-like” due to the buildup of energy.

Cape May Warbler - Parulidae

Has a brown crescent around the eye. Has a yellow chest with very thin black stripes, which kinda looks like a long necklace.

One, white wing-bar.

Cerulean Warbler - Parulidae

Blue, white, and black, with two white wingbars that fade into black towards the tips.

In serious, severe decline. “Bungee-jumps” from nests they sit on for too long, only opening their wings to fly when they’re close to the ground!

Call is a very buzzy sound tht doesn’t match how pretty the bird is! Buzziness that leads into a trill.

“ZEEEEE” trill towards the end of the call.

Wilson’s Warbler - Parulidae

All yellow with a black hat, giving it a “kid at the baseball game” kind of look.

Long thin tail and a thin bill, but stubby and round.

Northern Parula - Parulidae

Goregous, with a partial eyering, yellow throat, yellow belly, and an orange necklace.

There is also a bit of orange on the back, and white flanks + tail.

A long, very intense buzzy trill, which intensfies and quickens as it goes on.

Magnolia Warbler - Parulidae

Partial eyering, partial supercilium. Also has a long, streaky necklace, and has a lot of white in the wing.

Likes dense conifer forests.

“Weeta-weeta-weeto” call, very fleeting and sweet.

Brown breast, black mask, mottled grey and white wings.

More brown than other warblers.

Blackburnian Warbler - Parulidae

Eyebar, but has an ombre black and orange head that is very intense and beautiful.

Very distinct white wing patch and streaky sides.

Descending, buzzy call with a trill at the end - tends to get high pitched, kind of like a Kinglet.

Chestnut-sided Warbler - Parulidae

Chestnut sides, yellow cap, and black eyebrow that extends down into the malar.

“Very very pleased to meetcha!” or “Pleased pleased pleased to meet you!”, with a lot of emphasis on “meet” for the call.

Black mask and neck, white belly, and white wing spot, sometimes called a “pocket hankerchief”.s

Sharp and pointy bill!

Black-throated Green Warbler - Parulidae

Yellow head, mossy green back, crown, and very obvious white wing-bars.

Also has streaky black sides.

Thin, lazy “zee-zee-zee-zee-zee?” or “zoo zee zoo zee zee za” or “trees trees murmuring trees”.
