Q

common area?

A

ileocecal valve

narrower bowel moves into wider bowel (or vice versa)

Q

patho

A

invagination -> bowel obstruction -> inflmtn -> increased exudate, hyperemia -> edema

obstr = increased intralumenal pressure, pushes against wall and constricts vessels in bowel wall -> ischemia -> infarction

necrosis of tissue = perf in area of bowel, and bacteria can infect the necrotic tissue -> bacterial peritonitis

Q

treatment

A
  • hydrostatic reduction: water-soluble contrast medium that provides pressure to push back the invaginated area (air pressure + water pressure)
  • Sx for complx
