Adaptations, Interdependance, And Competition Flashcards
What is a habitat?
An area where organisms live
What are biotic factors?
The interaction of living things
What is a community?
A group of interdependent living organisms in a community
What is interdependence?
When different populations reply on others for certain things. Eg, food, shelter
What are abiotic factor?
Non-living elements of the elements. Eg, soil
What is an ecosystem?
Interacting organisms and their environments
What is distribution?
Where particular types of organisms are found within a n environment
What is a stable community?
A stable community is where the number of species and the population size stays relatively constant
What are the 3 main things which animals compete for?
They compete for :
- Territory
- Food
- Mates
What do animals need to do to be successful in competition?
They need to adapt to their surroundings so that they have an advantage over their own and other species
Why do plants need light, water and carbon dioxide?
Plants need these things for photosynthesis, to make food
Why do plants need nutrients?
To make all the chemicals they need in their cells
Why do plants need space to grow?
They need space to grow to allow their roots are taking water and nutrients and the leaves to capture light
What makes a species a good competitor ?
If they have the ability to adapt to certain situations
What are structural adaptations?
Structural adaptation can be something to do with the shape or colour of the organism, or part of the organism
