10
Q

What causes the Containment Spray Pumps to auto start?

A
  • Auto start on CHP if “armed”

- P-54C has a 20 second time delay to prevent starting too many loads on C bus at a time

Q

How are CV-3001 and CV-3002, Containment Spray Valves, operated?

A
  • Normally closed
  • Gets an open signal on CHP
  • Will throttle on RAS to give more NPSH to the Containment Spray Pumps
  • 3 position hand switch CLOSE/OPEN/THROTTLE

12
Q

What is the purpose of the CV-3001, Containment Spray Valve, CHP Bypass key switch?

A

Cuts out the CHP signal to CV-3001, to allow closing of the valve in the event that only 1 Containment Spray Pump is operating and we have a CHP signal.

13
Q

How do CV-3001 and CV-3002, Containment Spray Valves, throttle spray flow?

A
  • Valve disk has holes in it that are big enough that debris from the containment sump won’t clog the valve and stop flow.
  • When valves are placed in the THROTTLE position, they go to a pre-set throttled postion.

14
Q

What is the power supply for CV-3001?

A
  • D11-1, and D21-1
  • This valve has a right train power supply in order to close the valve (valve fails open) on a loss of left train. This valve needs to close because we would only have 1 Containment Spray Pump available to supply 2 spray headers, and a subcooling valve (P-66B subcooling valve would be closed due to P-66B not operating).

16
Q

What is the motive force for operating CV-3001 and CV-3002, Containment Spray Valves?

A
  • Instrument air (normal)

- Nitrogen (backup)

17
Q

What will cause CV-3001, Containment Spray Valve, to auto close?

A

CV-3030, Containment Sump Outlet Valve (to left train SI pumps), fails to open after 30 seconds.

18
Q

What is the capacity of the containment spray headers?

A

Each header can supply 100% of the required spray flow

19
Q

What is the purpose of the Sodium Tetraborate Decahydrate baskets?

A

Maintains containment sump water pH between 7 and 8 during RAS to keep iodine in solution.

20
Q

How much Sodium Tetraborate Decahydrate do we have in containment?

A

20 baskets with a total weight of approximately 9,000 lbs

21
Q

What can be supplied by 1 Containment Spray Pump?

A

2 spray headers or 1 spray header and 1 HPSI subcooling valve. 2 or more Containment Spray Pumps can supply both spray headers and both HPSI subcooling valves.

22
Q

What are alternate uses of the Containment Spray System?

A
  • Can be used to fill SITs when in Modes 5 and 6 (not normal method of filling)
  • Can be used to boost discharge pressure of the HPSI pumps in the event of a fire that has disabled all charging pumps.
