16
Q

where is TPN administered?

A

through central vein

17
Q

PPN used for…

A

when pt unable to consume enough calories

18
Q

where is PPN administered?

A

through peripheral vein

19
Q

how should PPN solution be?

A

Solution must be isotonic, cannot contain more than 10% dextrose

20
Q

what is required on IV tubing?

A

micron filter and IV infusion pump

21
Q

how do you avoid hypoglycemia?

A

an IV of dextrose 10%-20% in water is administered if the PN solution is unavailable

22
Q

when should you change bag and tubing?

A

every 24 hours

23
Q

when should PN be discontinued?

A

Pn should be discontinued when client’s enteral or oral intake can provide 60% or more of calorie requirements
-Discontinuation should be done GRADUALLY to avoid rebound Hypoglycemia!
