Q

What is the big difference between D9-THC and K2?

A

K2 binds to the CB1 receptor as a full agonist and THC binds as a partial agonist
Basically, synthetic cannabinoids are designed to bind CB1 receptors and hit it as hard as it can. This isn’t marijuana.

Q

What is the underlying reason why synthetic cannabinoids are so toxic? What is the effect from synthetic cannabinoids binding the following areas of the brain?
Hippocampus, temporal cortex, prefrontal cortex, brain stem.

A
Wide distribution of CB1 receptors in the brain and these synthetics binding with greater potency and efficacy
Memory
Seizures
Psychosis
GI, cardiac and respiratory problems

Q

Talk about the major difference between synthetic and natural marijuana metabolites?

A

Metabolites of synthetic bind just as strong as parent compound
THC metabolites do not bind CB1 receptor
Cannabidiol in natural marijauna precuts THC from binding to the recptor which appears to blunt some of the adverse actions of the THC
No cannabidiol in synthetic
