Intro to organic Flashcards
Structural isomers
Same MF diff SF
Chain isomers
Structural isomers that differ by having diff. C chain
Position isomers
Structural isomers that differ by having functional group in diff. position
Functional isomer
Structural isomer that differ by having diff. functional group
Functional group
Group of atoms responsible for most of chemical reactions of a molecule
Homologous series
Fam of compounds w/ same general formula, similar chem properties + each successive member differ by CH2
Stereoisomer
Same MF + SF but diff. spatial arrangement of atoms
Geometric isomer
Molecules which have diff. arangement of groups round C=C
Optical isomer
Molecules which are non-superimposable mirror image
What causes E/Z isomerism?
- C atoms in C=C are planar
- C=C can’t rotate
