A
  • Intracellular alteration of gene transcription; takes days
  • inhibit COX-2 synthesis and inducible nitric Oxide synthase
  • Inhibit cytokine and chemokine synthesis
  • Stimulate productino of lipocortion(inhibits PLA2 and prostaglandin synth)

Anti-inflammatory/immunosurpressive

  • Allergic/septic emergency - IV
  • Asthma, COPD - Inhaled, oral
  • UC, Chrons - Oral rectal
  • RA - Oral
  • Skin, eczema, psoriasis
  • Organ transplant
  • Rhinitis, conjunctivits

Replacement therapy

  • Addisons - lifelong 20 mg hydrocortisone Am, 10mg Pm + fludrocortisone

Others

  • Neoplastic
  • Pre-term labour (enhance fetal lung maturation)
