B8 Flashcards
What is photosynthesis?
is a process used by plants and other organisms to convert light energy into chemical energy that can later be released to fuel the organisms’ activities
Equation for photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide + water —-> glucose + oxygen
Chemical equation for glucose
C6H12O6
Photosynthesis practical
1) Put leaf into boiling water for 1 minute
2) Transfer the leaf into boiling ethanol for 5 minutes
3) Take out leaf and wash in hot water
4) Put on a white tile and put iodine solution on it
5) If starch is present, it goes from orange to blue to black
What is an endothermic reaction?
absorbs energy from its surroundings
Starch in plants
Some of the glucose produced during photosynthesis is used immediately by the cells of the plants for respiration, but mostly glucose is converted inti starch and is stored
