Chemistry equations Flashcards
what is the reactivity series?
potassium, sodium, lithium, calcium, magnesium, aluminium, carbon, zinc, iron, hydrogen, copper, silver, gold, platinum
how do you find the percentage mass of an element in a compound?
percentage mass of an element in a compound =((Ar × no. atoms of that element) ÷ Mr of the compound) ×100
how do you find the number of moles in an amount of substance?
no. of moles= mass in g ÷ Mr
what is Avogadro’s number?
6.02 × (10 to the power of 23)
how do you find the volume of gas?
volume of gas(dm cubed)= (mass of gas (g) ÷Mr) ×24
how do you find the concentration of a solution in g/dm cubed?
concentration (g/dm cubed) = mass of solvent (g) ÷ volume of solvent (dm cubed)
how do you find the concentration of a solution in mol/dm cubed
concentration(mol/dm cubed)= no. of moles of solute ÷ volume of solvent (dm cubed)
how do you find atom economy?
atom economy= (rfm of desired products ÷ relative formula mass of all reactants) ×100
how do you find percentage yield?
percentage yeild= (mass of product actually made ÷ maximum theoretical mass of product) ×100
how do you find energy change?
energy change= energy taken in to break bonds - energy given out when making bonds
what happens when an acid reacts with an alkali?
acid + alkali = salt + water
AAWS
what happens when a base reacts with an acid?
base + acid = water + salt
BAWS
what happens when a metal carbonate reacts with an acid?
metal carbonate + acid = water + carbon dioxide + salt
CAWCS
what happens when a metal reacts with an acid?
metal + acid = salt + hydrogen
