- COX2: induced in some tissues sometimes, has a physiologic role in kidney and a prominent role in pathologic stimuli
mild, moderate, and severe aspirin toxicity
- mild: ringing in ears, N/V
- moderate: N/V, hyperventilation, flushing, sweating, thist, HA, diarrhea, tachy
- severe: resp alkalosis, hemorrhage, confusion, pulmonary edema convulsion
how does acetaminophen not have anti-inflam properties, not cause GI ulcers, not suppress platelets, and not impair renal function?
inhibits prostaglandin synthesis in CNS, but not in the periphery!
safe dose of acetaminophen in a day
3g/day (2g/day if liver disease)
