Community
The final step in the Catholic Church recognising a person as being exceptionally close to God and conferring the title ‘Saint’.
Canonisation
A member of the Roman Catholic Church.
Catholic
Someone who believes in Christ and follows his teachings.
Christian
The community or the ‘assembly of baptised believers’ within whom God dwells.
Church
The most important and oldest festival of the Christian Church, celebrating the resurrection of Christ.
Easter
An announcement of good news. The story of the victory of Jesus and the Kingdom of God over Satan and evil.
Gospel
A local community of the Christian faithful under the care of a parish priest.
Parish
Petition, Adoration, Contrition, Thanksgiving
Prayer
A visible and effective sign of the invisible reality of God’s grace.
Sacrament
All who share the gifts that God gives through baptism, particularly those who have been canonised.
Saint
The teachings handed on by the Apostles and the ways these teachings are handed on under the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
Tradition
One who saw the Risen Christ and was sent by him to proclaim the Gospel, being given the authority to teach, sanctify and govern.
Apostle
The event where Jesus overcame the power of death by God’s saving power.
Resurrection
An angel who turned away from God following the lead of Satan
Demon
Feel or express sincere regret or remorse about one’s wrongdoing or sin.
Repent
The range of God’s effective will
Kingdom of God
Connected with or characteristics of God.
Divine
The mystery where God became fully human when Jesus was born of human flesh and blood.
Incarnation
The Father, Son and Holy Spirit, three persons in one God.
Trinity
A repetitive ceremonial activity with fixed rules, such as the rite of ordination.
Rite
A teaching based on the person and work of Jesus that comes to people through the Church.
Doctrine
The practice of giving money or food to poor people
Almsgiving
A Catholic international aid and development agency.
