France and Britain were blocking trade routes and the Barbary states were blackmailing ships for safe passage. We were tired of paying and wanted to navigate freely so we decided to go to war.
Discuss the slogan “free trade and sailors rights” and how these causes contributed to US declaration of war on great Britain.
Barbary states were paid for safe passage and if they were not paid would seize vessels and sailors and sell them back. The slogan indicated our desire to trade with whoever we wanted to and the rights of sailors to not be impressed on imprisoned.
Discuss the situation on the western frontier.
The British helped the native American protect what they believed was their territory by providing resources, arming and training them to fight.
