1
Q

What is HEAT round?

A

High Explosive Anti-Tank:

True anti armor threat. Designed under the Monroe effect principle charge. Highly lethal “jet” torch penetrates steel.

Q

What is a HESH round?

A

High Explosive Smash Head:
Functions under the sledge-hammer principle. The steel nose impact will debilitate and crush the armor, the explosive charge will multiply the kinetic energy upon impact.

Q

What is an FAE round?

A

Fuel Air Explosive:
Specifically designed to destroy light skinned vehicles and combat field fortifications. Releases gas into the air which it ignites creating a fireball explosion.

Q

What is a Tandem Warhead?

A

Designed to counter ERA protection. Smaller charge penetrates the ERA block and the main charge follows through to penetrate main armor.

9
Q

Base Detonating

A

The firing pin is located in the base of the round Explosive composition. The firing pin will strike the primer and the explosive train will begin.

Q

Point initiating base Detonating

A

Fuse has 2 elements. One piezo crystal in the nose and a solenoid in the base. During impact the crystal creates 12-50V that excite the solenoid which releases the firing pin to initiate the explosive train.

Q

SACLOS: Semi-Automatic Line of Sight

A

Second generation of missile guidance systems. The gunner operates the guide and tracking unit by keeping his sight on target. All commands are transmitted electronically to the missile I.e. TOW, Milan.

Q

ACLOS: Automatic Line of Sight.

A

Third generation of guidance systems. Gunner aims at target and fires. Computer transmits data to missile which makes automatic flight path corrections.
Newest versions feature “fire and forget” I.e. Javelin.

16
Q

Single Firing

A

One gunner engages target with one AT weapon. Least preferred method

17
Q

Sequence Firing

A

One Gunner prepares several launchers for firing and continues to engage target until destroyed

18
Q

Pair Firing

A

Two gunners prepare two or more AT weapons each and fire at a target one weapon at a time.

19
Q

Volley Firing

A

You and one or more other gunners prepare one or more AT weapons and and fire at target at once.
