What is left sided heart failure?

A
2 types
• Systolic weak muscle can’t contract
newer aka: LVHF w/ ↓ EF
• Diastolic stiff muscle can’t relax
newer aka: CHF w/ preserved EF

• Caused by LV HF pHTN, RV infarct, tricuspid
dysfnx
• Right ventricle can’t relax

S/S of L heart failure?

A

(Related to poor perfusion)
Neurologic -weakness , fatigue, dizziness, confusion, anxiety
Pulmonic -dyspnea, SaO2, crackles, wheezing, cough, OSA
Cardiac-S3, tachy, thready pulse, organ perfusion, orthoBP
Urinary -oliguria (late state), nocturia Gastric
sluggish GI

A
Primarily related to Fluid Overload
•Dependent edema 
•Weight gain - most reliable indicator of fluid gain/loss 
•Increased abdominal girth 
•JVD 
•LE edema   ascites, hepatomegaly 
•Anorexia, nausea 
•Fatigue, weakness 
•Hepatomegaly 
-ascites
