8.1 Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is energy?
In what forms it comes?
The ability to do work.
Comes in many forms including light, heat and electricity.
What is ATP?
Is a compound that cell use to store and release energy
What consist ATP?
consist on of adenine (3-carbon), a 5 carbon sugar called ribose, and three phosphate groups.
What is ADP?
Is a compound that cell use to store energy
How is the release of energy on ATP?
cells release energy stored on ATP by . the control breaking of the chemical bonds between the second and third phosphate groups.
movement power by ATP
wavelike movement
Heterotrophs
consume other living things.
Examples: Mushrooms: absorb nutrients from decomposing organisms from the environment.
Autotrophs
Make their own food (Photosynthesis)
What happens during photosynthesis?
plants convert energy of sunlight into chemical energy stored in the bonds of carbohydrates.
ADP to ATP and ATP to ADP
ADP is like a half charged battery (when it is combined with the a phosphate it forms ATP)
ATP full charged battery (when it lose the phosphate group, it release energy and convert into ADP)
For what is used the energy of ATP?
to carrying out active transport by providing energy for the transportation of sodium and potassium ions through the membrane.
