Aetiology/ Risk factors: What are the different causes of cirrhosis? (11)

A

Causes:

  • Cryptogenic (unknown cause) – most common
  • Alcohol
  • Autoimmune liver disease (3)
  • Hepatitis B (chronic)
  • Hepatitis C (chronic)
  • Haemochromatosis (genetic)
  • Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency
  • Wilson’s disease
  • Obesity (Diabetes mellitus)
  • Drugs (amiodarone, methotrexate – MXT)
  • Immune mediated liver disease
