Describe the POSI Position of Safe Immobilisation

A
  • For structures to heal (eg bone fractures)
  • For swollen tissues to be held to avoid further irritation
  • All structures to remain in position of function
  • 25 degree wrist extension

A

Collateral ligaments of MCP and IP joints are in their most lengthened position and they cannot shorten (which will limit ROM)

A

Resting position

  • For muscles to rest and any swollen structures to reduce friction through motion
  • MCP and IP flexion
  • Take splint on and off comfortably
