Q

Cavernous sinus thrombosis

A

Headache, periorbital edema, exopthalmos, chemosis

Fundoscopy: papilledema and dilated tortuous retinal veins

16
Q

Symptoms of optic neuritis

A

Unilateral eye pain and acute vision loss and afferent pupillary defect
-a/w MS!!

17
Q

Macular degeneration

A

Affects central vision: distorted vision w/ central scotoma
Smoking increases risk

Fundoscopy:

  • atrophic: multiple sores in the macular region
  • exudative: new blood vessels that may leak, bleed, and scar the retina
18
Q

Retinal detatchment

A

Unilateral blurred vision that progressively worsens

19
Q

Glaucoma symptoms

A

Peripheral visual field defects

20
Q

Vitreous hemorrhage

A

Sudden loss of vision and floaters in the visual field

-diabetic retinopathy is most common cause

21
Q

Allergic conjunctivitis

A

Acute hypersensitivity caused by environmental allergens

  • itching, hyperemia, tearing, conjunctival edema, eyelid edema
  • photophobia and a burning sensation
  • usually family or personal hx of asthma, atopic dermatitis, urticaria
22
Q

Atopic keratoconjunctivitis

A

Ocular allergy

-itching, tearing, thick mucus discharge, photophobia, blurred vision

23
Q

Toxic conjunctivitis

A

Direct damage to ocular tissues from drugs

-hx of aminoglycosides, glaucoma drops, artificial tears, or contact lens solution

24
Q

Blepharitis

A

Chronic inflammatory condition involving lid margins bilaterally

  • anterior blepharitis: crusty discharge seen clinging to the lashes
  • posterior blepharitis: hyperemic lid margins w/ telangiectasias
