What is a tie back procedure?

A

Involves making an incision into the trachea to expose the arytenoid cartilage. A non absorbable monofilament suture is used to tie back the cartilage to the wall of the trachea using a simple interrupted pattern

Patient prep

A

Hair needs to be clipped from the PHARYNX to the CRANIAL BORDER of the SCAPULA. the surgical site is then prepped aseptically

Patient positioning

A

Placed in lateral recumbency with the affected side up. A support bag or towel is placed under the neck to elevate it and keep it extended
