cheat sheet to writing good intro

A
  • beginning: start with a hook of common association
  • middle:
    • introduce the title and the author of the piece
    • connect back to your hook
    • you can add a brief summary here if you want, but it is not needed
  • thesis:
    • the essential element of the intro
    • you can identify the techniques you plan to address, but you MUST identify the poet’s purpose (your warrants)
    • the techniques (your claims) you identify will be your body paragraphs
