What is an emotion?
An internal process that modifies the way an organism responds to certain classes of stimuli

People with spinal injury report less intense emotions depending on how high up the injury is

The circuit connecting the hippocampus and the thalamus was the basis for emotional experiance

What is sham rage?
Coordinated but undirected emotional expression - rage when cortex was removed
What is Kluver-Bucy syndrome?
When the anterior temporal lobe was damaged, monkeys were much more submissive
Leisons result in unusual tameness and a lack of fear
How is the amygdala involved in emotion?
Fear conditioning, activated by negative emotions
Participants with leisons have less fear and are worse a recognising facial expressions
What is the reinforcement model of emotion?
Emotional states happen due to reward and punishment. Omission of these can lead to other emotions
Happiness is a reward we are motivaed to acheive
What is facial feedback theory or unconscious emotions?
Sensory feedback contributes to emotions. People smiled when watching cartoons and found them funnier
