What is organizational ambidexterity?

A

Flexibility vs Efficiency!
Traditional view: You can either be very efficient or very flexible.
New view: Doing both simultaneously requires ambidexterity. Today you can be both by being ambidextrous!

Exploitation (routine work) vs exploration (non-routine work)

  1. Exploit existing resources and capabilities (efficient, routine work)
  2. Explore new resource for future opportunities (effective, new/non-routine work)
