The Nervous System Flashcards

1
Q

A

the cells that support and maintain cells of the nervous system. Can be subdivided into macroglia and microglia.

9
Q

Multipolar

A

• One single axon with multiple dendrites • Most common neurone type • Typical for motor neurones and interneurones

Q

Bipolar

A

• Special senses • One single axon and one dendrite • Relatively uncommon • Restricted mainly to sensory pathways (vision, taste, hearing, balance)

Q

Unipolar

A
  • Single process leaves cell body and divides in two
  • Both structures resemble axons structurally but functionally one acts like a dendrite and the other like an axon
  • Characteristic of general sensory neurones
