Diffuses across cell membrane, binds to DNA, regulates gene expression and increases synthesis of proteins and enzymes that inhibit inflammatory agents, inhibits pro-inflammatory enzymes
is an immunosupressant

Dose
Asthma/anaphylaxis adult: 125-250 mg IV,io
Spinal cord injury adult: 30 mg/kg IV,io over 15 min
A/a pedi: 2 mg/kg IV,io,im max dose 80

Precautions
- give only one dose prehospitaly
- lt steroid use can cause gi bleeding
- prolongs wound healing
- suppression of adrenocortico steroids
