Flexion and Extension
- pure spin movement of labrum in glenoid fossa
What movements occur in the frontal plane?
Abduction and adduction
- Concave on convex so movement occurs in opposite direction
Ab: superior slide and inferior roll
What movements occur in the transverse plane?
Internal and External Rotation
What is the capsular pattern in the shoulder?
ER > abduction > IR
What is the role of the glenoid labrum?
Fibrocatilagenous ring surrounding the glenoid fossa which helps to deepen the socket and create additional joint stability
What muscles compress and depress the glenohumeral joint?
- supraspinatus and long head of biceps contribute to GH compression
- Infra/Teres min, depress the GH to prevent subacromial compression
Where does supraspinatus commonly have referred pain?
Lateral elbow
What are the common positional signs of shoulder nerve root pain?
arm resting on head or elevation of the injured arm.
What test is commonly used to check shoulder stability?
Sulcus sign is used to test anterior and inferior shoulder stability and general joint laxity.
What special tests are used for supraspinatus pathology?
speeds test, empty can test, Hawkins-Kenedy, lab sign
What test is used for biceps tendinopathy?
speed’s test
What is the drop arm test used for?
supraspinatus tendon tear
What are the special test for shoulder instability?
Crank - anterior instability
Jerk - posterior instability
load and shift test - multi-directional instability
What is used to test for AC impingement?
cross-arm adduction test
What are the belly and lift-off tests used for?
subscapularis pathology
