Q

Explain IMPLEMENT CONTROLS

A
  • Measures that can be used to eliminate hazards or reduce the degree of risk
  • CLEAR, SIMPLE execution orders to be understood at ALL LEVELS

Q

Explain FOOT PROTECTION and requirements

A

All marine personnel exposed to foot hazardous areas shall be furnished safety footwear at government expense. Hazardous areas includes: constructions, maintenance, transportation, weapons, supply, vehicle maintenance, etc.

Q

Explain the purpose and information contained in MSDS

A

Is a technical bulletin containing information about materials, such as the:
-composition
-chemical and physical characteristics
-health and safety hazards
-safe handling and use
Supervisors are required to provide training to everyone that uses the material before they use it

14
Q

Discuss the term RM and the concept of the RM process

A

RM
-One of the BEST MEANS available to eliminate needless loss of LIFE, INJURY, MATERIAL DAMAGE

RM PROCESS
-Minimizing RISK to and ACCEPTABLE LEVEL commensurate with mission accomplishment.

Q

Explain HEAD PROTECTION and requirements

A

Safety helmets protect against IMPACT , PENETRATION, AND ELECTRIC SHOCK. Any personnel entering head hazardous areas shall wear appropriate head protection

16
Q

Explain ACCEPT RISK WHEN BENEFITS OUTWEIGHS THE COST

A

Manage risk so mission can be accomplished with the minimum amount of loss

17
Q

Explain “Make risk decisions at the right level”

A
  • Anyone can make risk decision
  • Ultimate RM decision (reject, accept, eliminate) will be made by the LEADER directly in charge of the operation
  • If Leader unable to mitigate, take it to SNCO/Officer
  • If SNCO unable, elevate to Commander
18
Q

Explain ANTICIPATE AND MANAGE RISK BY PLANNING

A

Integrating RM as early as possible, provides the greatest opportunity to make well-informed risk decisions and implement effective risk controls.

19
Q

RISK

A

An expression of possible loss in terms of probability and severity

20
Q

HAZARDOUS MATERIAL

A

Any material that because of its QUANTITY, CONCENTRATION, OR PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL characteristics, may pose hazard to HUMAN HEALTH or ENVIRONMENT, if INCORRECTLY used, PURPOSEFULLY released, or ACCIDENTALLY spilled

21
Q

HAZARD

A

A condition that can cause injury or death, property damage or mission degradation

22
Q

What are the four principles of RM

A
  1. Accept risk when benefits outweigh the cost
  2. Accept no unnecessary risk
  3. Anticipate and manage risk by planning
  4. Make risk decisions at the right level
23
Q

Three Levels of RM

A
  1. In-depth Level
  2. Deliberate level
  3. Time Critical Level
24
Q

HAZARDOUS WASTE

A

A discarded material which meets the definition of hazardous material and is designated as waste by Environmental Protection Agency or State Authority

25
Q

Explain SUPERVISE

A

Conduct follow-up evaluations of the controls to make sure they remain in place and have the desired effect

26
Q

Explain MAKE RISK DECISIONS

A

Accomplished in TWO sub steps

  • IDENTIFY and ASSESS risk control options
  • Make RISK DECISION (Reject, Avoid, Delay, Transfer Compensate)
27
Q

Explain HEARING PROTECTION and requirements

A

Hearing protection shall be worn when noise levels is:

  • 84 dBA sound level or greater
  • 140 dB sound pressure level or greater

When sound level is 104 dBA or greater double hearing protection must be worn. Inserts and circumference hearing protective devices
