What is benvolio like ?
Calm and peaceful and avoids conflict, close to Romeo and gives him realistic advice about love, and he is the opposite of Tybalt.
What is tybalt like ?
Hates the Montagues and is ready to fight them, aggressive and quick to react, feels that honour and respect are more important than anything else, and he can be polite and courteous but most of the time he is the opposite of Benvolio.
What is lord capulet like ?
At the beginning shows love for Juliet and respects her wishes, stops Tybalt from fighting at the party, completely different in the second half - rushing the marriage and angry and violent with Juliet when she disobeys him.
What is lady capulet like ?
Not close to Juliet, much younger than Capulet - arranged marriage, thinks Paris is a good choice - good looking, wealthy and powerful and disagrees with husbands anger but doesn’t help Juliet.
How does the nurse act towards juliet ?
Close to Juliet, focuses on physical love and jokes about it, protective of Juliet when she talks to Romeo, and defends her against Capulet but then changes mind saying she should marry Paris, betraying Juliet.
What is friar lawrence’s role in the play ?
Close to Romeo - father figure, thinks Romeo is immature and acts too quickly, buty agrees to marry them as he thinks it will bring together the families, and helps Romeo and then Juliet but runs away to avoid the consequences of his actions.
How does mercution act ?
Focuses on physical love and jokes about it, cynical views on love are opposite to Romeo, thinks Romeos depressed attitude to love and fate are foolish, and can be quite fiery and gets angry with both Tybalt and Romeo.
What does prince escalus do ?
Tries to stop the fighting by threatening Montague and Capulet, he is fair - exiles Romeo to stop the killing, and blames the families for the children’s deaths.
What happens with paris during the play ?
Tries to persuade Capulet to allow Juliet to marry him, wealthy and of high status, very polite and courteous and goes along with societies rules, and dies not knowing about Romeo and Juliet.
