Exam 3 - Meds Flashcards

1
Q

Describe Albuterol’s MOA

A

In the lungs: Sympathetic → Epinephrine → (adrenergic receptors - ß2) → BRONCODILATION

Q

What are the side effects of Albuterol?

A

Nervousness, shaking, palpitation, HYPOKALEMIA, HYPERGLYCEMIA

(Stimulates epinephrine- activates glycogenolysis, K+ being pumped out of cell, increased HR)

Q

When should weight loss drugs be started? When should it be discontinued?

A

Started:
• BMI >/= 30

Q

Describe Lisinopril. What is it used for?
What is it’s MOA?
Side Effects?

A

Angiotensin Converting Inhibitor (ACEI)

MOA: blocks ACE, inhibiting conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II (which is a potent vasoconstrictor). This lowers aldosterone (so low Na/H2O reabsorption and more K reabsorption)

SE:
• Dry cough
• Hypotension
• Hyperkalemia
