  • they gathered 6000 soldiers in attempt to revert England back to Catholicism

-Catholic Throckmorton organised a plan for the French army (paid for by Pope and King Philip II of Spain) to invade England and replace Elizabeth with Mary QoS

  • Sir Anthony Babington planned to rescue Mary QoS from jail and murder Elizabeth,
  • secret letters were exchanged
  • they were discovered which gave Elizabeth’s advisor enough evidence to prove Mary’s guilt
