A

Politicians from winning countries met at the Palace of Versailles, near Paris, to decide what was to happen to Germany. It was known as the Paris Peace Conference.

Were negotiations easy?

A

NO! It took months of agreeing. 5 treaties were drawn up at the conference - the “Treaty of Versailles” was the main one that dealt with Germany.

List the most important punishments for Germany.

A

-Not allowed to join the LON.
-Rhineland was demilitarised. German army was not allowed to go there.
-The Saar (rich coalfields!) given to France for 15 years.
-Alsace-Lorraine returned to France.
-Germany forbidden to reunite with Austria.
-Lands in eastern Germany (the rich farmlands of Posen and the Polish corridor between Germany and East Prussia) were given to Poland.
-Danzig made a free city under LON control.
