What is the war on drugs?
It has american origins, they were perceived as evil and a threat to mankind.
How does a neoliberal penal system affect drug use?
Around a quarter of people in US prisons are on drug charges. This is a response to law and order and the privatisation of prisons gives them an incentive.
What is the chances of incarceration for a black male in the USA.
There is a 1 in 3 chance of incarceration.
What is decriminalisation?
This is where you don’t lock people up for minor offences and tackle real crime instead.
What is medicalisation?
Evidence suggests that some drugs can have medicinal benefits. This means that its regulated and pure.
What is legalisation?
Legalise drugs and regulate the buying and selling of them. The controlled productive would be a safer alternative.
What is harm reduction?
Maintains prohibition, but provides services for users of hard drugs.
What are some of the human impacts of penal drug system?
No consideration for a persons social situation.
Ignores upbringing
Lack of jobs
Poverty
