Photosynthesis Flashcards
What do plants make to survive?
Food and energy
How do plants use sunlight?
To make energy to make sugars
What sugars do plants make?
Glucose, sucrose, cellulose, and starch
What two processes are part of photosynthesis?
Energy building reactions and sugar building reactions
Which organelles make energy and sugars?
Chloroplasts
What are the reactants of photosynthesis?
CO2, Water, and Sunlight
What helps the process of photosynthesis?
Enzymes
What are the products of photosynthesis?
O2 and glucose
What is transpiration?
Water leaving the stomata pulls up more water from the roots for the plant to use in photosynthesis
What is the cuticle?
A waxy coating on leaves to keep water inside
What is the epidermis?
The outer skin layer of the leaf
What is the palisades layer?
The upper layer with the most chloroplasts where the most photosynthesis happens
What is the spongy layer?
The lower layer of the leaf where gas exchange occurs to remove waste and bring in reactants
What do stoma do?
Bring in CO2 and take out O2 and water
What do guard cells do?
Open and close the stoma depending on internal water conditions
