Q

How does digestion occur in the stomach

A
  • stomach turns the bolus
  • upper part (fundus) produces inactive enzymes (pepsinogen)
  • lower part (pylorus) parietal cells secretes HCL which turns pepsinogen into pepsin
  • pepsin breaks down proteins

16
Q

Role of the large intestine

A

doesn’t digest but absorbs water, inorganic salts, minerals and vitamins

17
Q

what is an ulcer

A

preforations in the lining of the body, caused by acid

18
Q

inflammatory bowel disease

A

diseases that cause inflammation of the intestines

19
Q

What are gallstones

A

Hardened deposits of digestive fluid from the gallbladder

20
Q

How does the removal of the gall bladder affect digestion

A

bile is less concentrated and drains into the intestines. Difficulty digesting fat

21
Q

Hepatitis

A

disease caused by the inflammation of the liver

22
Q

cirrhosis

A

chronic disease of the liver, result of alcohol and hepatitis

23
Q

pancreatitis

A

pancreas that’s inflamed, you can get ur pancreas removed
