Q

What are prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells?

A

Prokaryotic cells - are small and simple.

Eukaryotic cells - are complex and include all animal and plant cells.

Q

What are prokaryotes and eukaryotes?

A

Prokaryotes - a prokaryotic cell and is a single-celled organism.
Eukaryotes - are organisms that are made up of eukaryotic cells.

Q

List the animal cells’ subcellular structures and what they are.

Once that’s done, get a picture of the cell and show where each subcellular structure is.

A

1 - Nucleus - contains genetic material that controls the activities of the cell.
2 - Cytoplasm - gel-like substances where most of the chemical reactions happen. It contains enzymes that control these chemical reactions.
3 - Cell membrane - holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out.
4 - Mitochondria - these are where most of the reactions for aerobic respiration take place. Respiration transfers energy that the cell needs to work.
5 - Ribosomes - these are where the proteins are made in the cell.

Q

What subcellular structures do plant cells have that animal cells DON’T have?

A

1 - Rigid Cell Wall - made of cellulose. It supports the cell and strengthens it.
2 - Permanent Vacuole - contains cell sap, which is a weak solution of sugar and salts.
3 - Chloroplasts - these are where photosynthesis occurs, which makes food for the plant. They contain a green substance called chlorophyll, which absorbs light needed for photosynthesis.

Q

What does a bacterial cell look like?

Once that’s done, get a picture of the bacteria cell and show where each subcellular structure is.

A
  • A cell membrane.
  • A cell wall.
  • Cytoplasm.
  • A singular strand of DNA that floats freely in the cytoplasm.
  • They MAY contain one or more small rings of DNA called plasmids.
  • However, bacteria DOES NOT have chloroplasts or mitochondria.
