how does Orlistat cause weight reduction?

A

Inhibits pancreatic and gastric lipases

60 mg dose can be purchased by patients with BMI >28kg/m2 and over 18 years of age

Usual prescription dose 120mg 3 times daily

GI adverse effects with consumption of fat

If you eat fat = fatty diarrhoea

Puts you off eating fat

you can only continue beyond 12 weeks if you loose over 5% of your body fat
