  • HF stage A (chlorthailadone)
    -high coronary disease risk (chlorthalidone)
    -diabetes (chlorthalidone)
    stroke (peirdoril + indapamide)

adverse effect

A
  • Hypokalemia and other electrolyte imbalances
  • Negative effect on glucose (intolerance; insignificant +3-5mg/dL) and lipids
  • Sexual dysfunction

comments

A
  • Avoid in pts with sulfonamide allergy, except ethacrynic acid
  • Chlorthalidone= 2X more potent than HCTZ
  • Thiazide diuretics are more effective as anti-HTNs than loop diuretics
  • Caution in pts with gout
  • Ineffective when CrCl <30ml/min
